Three Powers of the Soul

Savio Rodrigues SJ

Choose the right time, place and posture. Place yourself in the presence of God, by using any of the centering methods you have found useful.

Read the passage as though you would be reading a love letter, slowly, aloud or in a whisper, letting the words wash over you, enjoying every word, savouring the words and images they conjure up for you.

Stay with the words that especially catch your attention. Absorb them like dry land absorbing the rain.

Keep repeating the words or phrase, aware of the feelings that are awakened.

Read and re-read the passage lovingly as you would read a letter of a very loved one.

Occasionally you may ask yourself or God questions regarding the passage, like: why? how? when? How might this apply to me? Respond spontaneously and authentically to them.

End your prayer as usual, thanking God for his grace to be with Him and to relish His presence through His spoken or written word.

Recite a formal prayer.
