Gramin Yuvak Vikas Kendra
The expectations of the world of today for the third millennium are based on the hopes that it has placed in the youth. It is a fascinating time for young hearts and people who believe in the future, for visionaries who dream of a new world. Youth will be the main actors on the full stage of the drama of life in the third millennium. The trends that they set, the vision that they have, the directions that they indicate can have a very great impact on life as it unfolds at the very inception of this era… the beginning of a new age. Hence, the animation of the youth is very crucial in the implementation of the programmes for the youth at the Gramin Yuvak Vikas Kendra, Khanapur.
The Gramin Yuvak Vikas Kendra was started by Fr. Paul Ankush SJ in the year 1986 in the Chandgad Taluka of Maharashtra. After two years, the GYVK began work in the Belgaum District of Karnataka.
The Gramin Yuvak Vikas Kendra aims at bringing about an integral development of the youth based on the principles of love, unity and justice. It strives to do so by establishing a rural youth movement in every village. The GYVK seeks to serve the needs of the poor and needy youth. It makes no discrimination with regard to caste, creed and gender.
The aims of the GYVK include the development of rural local leaders; to work for self respect, unity, peace, happiness and justice; to help the poor and needy youth; personality development and vocational guidance.
